Does radio GPS tracking work indoors in hospitals and large buildings?

Last updated:

Ordinary radio GPS tracking does not provide dependable indoor or room-level positioning simply because the radio can communicate inside a building. GPS reception and radio communications use different signal paths.

RadioPro displays the location information it receives from supported radios. Buildings can obstruct the satellite signals a GPS receiver needs, so a radio may report an old position, an unavailable fix, or no new position even while voice calls work.

For outdoor vehicles and campus movement, supported radio GPS reporting can be useful. Always review the position timestamp and the configured reporting interval before treating a map marker as a current location.

Locating a worker by room or floor generally requires a separately designed indoor positioning system, potentially involving beacons, access-point infrastructure, tags, or another supported location technology. RadioPro GPS mapping should not be presented as automatic compatibility with those systems.

When planning a hospital, warehouse, or multi-building campus, specify whether you need outdoor vehicle locations, building-level presence, or room/floor-level positioning. Ask CTI and your radio dealer to verify any proposed third-party location integration before quoting it.
