Can RadioPro provide remote talk/listen access to a Motorola APX 4500?

Last updated:

Yes. RadioPro can provide remote talk/listen access to a Motorola APX 4500 using its accessory-connector audio and COR/PTT signals. CTI describes this as an intercom-style interface. It is a basic voice connection, rather than a native P25 console interface.

APX 4500 functions through the documented RadioPro interface
FunctionAvailability
Transmit and receive voiceSupported talk/listen
PTT ID / transmitting-radio identityNot available
GPS, text messaging and ARSNot available
Private call, remote monitor and radio enable/disableNot available through this interface

The installation uses the APX-configured Gateway and CTI interface cable S2-61927. The APX installation guide specifies the rear accessory connection and ICU intercom settings. Its PTT and COR inputs are active-low; the APX 4500 does not provide full-duplex operation, so transmission while receiving should be disabled as directed in the guide.

No special RadioPro-specific radio programming is required for this COR/PTT interface, but the radio must already be configured and authorized to operate on the intended system. Use Motorola's programming cable for CPS; the RadioPro interface cable is not an APX programming cable.

Do not plan APX GPS/data revert, talkgroup steering or CSSI-style P25 control on the basis of this voice interface. Have the dealer verify the required channel and operating procedure before deployment.
