Why does my radio transmit when I press PTT, but nobody can hear my voice?

Last updated:

If the radio keys up but no voice is heard, check the microphone audio path separately from the PTT control path. A working PTT button confirms control, but not that microphone audio is reaching the radio.

  1. Confirm that Windows detects microphone input and that the microphone is not muted.
  2. Check Windows microphone privacy settings and allow microphone access for desktop applications.
  3. Verify the selected recording device and microphone levels in Dispatch. Recheck these after changing a headset, USB port, or Windows audio settings.
  4. Test another known-working microphone or Dispatch position to determine whether the problem follows one PC.
  5. If all clients are affected, have your radio technician check the Gateway-to-radio cable, radio programming, and transmit audio levels.

Record whether the problem affects one channel, all channels, one client, or every client. Give CTI Technical Support that information along with the client and Gateway versions if the problem continues.
