Does RadioPro require an internet connection, or can it operate on a local network?

Last updated:

Basic RadioPro client-to-Gateway communication can operate on a local IP network without public internet access. The client must be able to reach the Gateway, and the Gateway's control station radio must be able to communicate with the radio fleet.

Public internet access is needed when the chosen connection path uses the internet, such as a remote smartphone connection or the hosted RadioPro Link service. Separately, online maps, software downloads, and other external services may require internet access even when local voice communication does not.

For an isolated installation, plan local IP addressing and a reachable local NTP time source. Any map or optional feature that normally uses an online service should be checked separately with your dealer.

If internet service fails, local operation depends on the connection configured for each client. A local client connected directly to a local Gateway has a different dependency from a client connecting through a cloud hostname.
