Can RadioPro remotely disable a lost or stolen radio?

Last updated:

RadioPro Dispatch can send remote disable and enable commands to a radio on supported digital systems. The function depends on the subscriber radio, control station, system mode and programming; voice access alone does not provide it.

Sending a command is not proof of completion. A powered-off or out-of-coverage radio may not answer.

  1. Have an authorized operator confirm the lost radio's unique ID against the equipment inventory.
  2. Select the correct individual contact and Gateway/radio path.
  3. Use the supported Remote Disable action and examine the result or acknowledgement provided by the installed system.
  4. Record the action under the site's equipment/security procedure. If the radio is recovered, an authorized operator can use Remote Enable where supported and test its operation.

The radio must be able to receive the command. A powered-off radio, a unit outside coverage or an incompatible configuration may not respond. Sending a request is not proof that it completed; do not assume a missing radio has been disabled simply because the button was pressed.

Have the radio dealer configure and test the feature before an incident occurs. The commands are not available through ordinary analog voice or the APX 4500 COR/PTT talk/listen interface.

Remote disable is one operational tool. If the missing radio contains credentials or encryption material, follow the radio-system administrator's separate access/key-management procedure.
