Can I replace a tone remote with PC-based radio control?

Last updated:

RadioPro Solo can provide a PC-based alternative to a desktop tone remote when the radio system and control station are compatible with RadioPro. This is a change in the access arrangement, not a direct software replacement for every tone-remote circuit.

A conventional tone-remote installation uses signaling and audio over a suitable circuit to a radio/adapter. With RadioPro, the PC connects over IP to a RadioPro IP Gateway that interfaces with a compatible control station radio.

The PC needs Solo, a suitable microphone/headset or speakers, and available Gateway connection licensing. Supported physical PTT accessories can provide desk-microphone or footswitch operation. Dispatch may be appropriate when the position needs multiple simultaneous radio paths or fuller console functions.

Ask your dealer to compare required channel selection, audio behavior, private/group functions, accessories, network dependency, and power arrangements. The RadioPro interface does not need the old tone circuit to carry its IP traffic, but the replacement network must reach the Gateway.

Keep any required fallback arrangement until the replacement has been tested against the site's actual operating procedures.
